bio
Corey Reed is a Canadian writer of fiction and freelancer. An Honours graduate of the Algonquin College Professional Writing program, his mentors included celebrated writer and journalist Moira Farr, whose work has appeared in The Walrus, Canadian Geographic, Chatelaine and The Globe and Mail, and Ian Roy, writer of poetry and children’s novel The Girl Who Could Fly.
Corey’s relentless pursuit of professional-grade quality, engagement, and lasting impact in his work secured him a placement within the Senate of Canada’s Auditing & Planning Directorate in 2016. Ever practicing and driven, he collaborated with local businesses and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in volunteer communications roles to accumulate further experience.
In early 2017, Corey was approached by seoplus+, a prominent marketing agency who sought to procure his services. He worked as a freelancer for several months before officially joining the team as their Content Marketing Specialist in August of that year. Corey operated as the company’s sole writer for several years, whose work helped to retain dozens of national and international clients. He later moved up to the role of Senior Content Writer & Editor in which he managed, coached, and supported additional writing staff while continuing to produce swaths of professional-grade work for a myriad of B2B and B2C industries. During this time, he also independently spearheaded and implemented rigorous quality assurance standards, became the go-to writer for his insights and trademark intensive quality checks, and created and hosted comprehensive training sessions to further aid newer internal writers.
In September 2022, Corey moved on from seoplus+ to resume his career as a freelancer. Armed with over half a decade of professional experience and a sharp eye, he secured his first client in mere weeks and has operated successfully ever since.
In tandem with his fiction-related endeavours, Corey is dedicated to each of his clients at a personal level, treating every content relationship as an opportunity to connect and make a positive impact through storytelling.

Writer of Literary Fiction
Corey’s work of short fiction, Miles to Go, was a shortlisted finalist at the 2014 National Capital Writing Contest, an annual competition organized by the Ottawa branch of the Canadian Authors Association. Ever since, he has meticulously handcrafted and submitted dozens of works to a variety of literary magazines. While as-yet unpublished in the traditional sense, he sees no need to wait for an acceptance email to engage with potential readers, having self-published several works of short fiction on this official website and on Medium.
Corey is working fervidly on a variety of fiction projects in tandem with his full-time freelancing career, passionately committed towards a goal of publication and reaching even more readers. These works include various short stories and novel manuscripts. One of the latter, a visceral work of literary fiction codenamed Project Galileo, is currently being pitched in queries to appropriate agents. Another, Project Coventry, is a period novel set amongst the ravages of the Second World War. A third novel, Project Akari, is a breakneck literary thriller that also aims to vividly capture the setting, societal norms, and hyper stimulative essence of Japan.
Storytelling Enthusiast
Corey’s approach to writing fiction is both calculated and lush, often diving full force into delicate subject matter and immersing readers with a strong sense of place. His voice and style have been rigorously self-developed over decades of practice and refinement. Notable writers, artists, and other storytellers of significant inspiration include Guy Gavriel Kay, Farley Mowat, Paru Itagaki, Kenshi Yonezu, Margaret Atwood, Martin Scorsese, Robert Frost, Hideo Kojima, John Irving, and Ray Eames.
Keen on avoiding a limited scope while putting his theory of boundless storytelling to the test, Corey has made a point of travelling regularly, either for self-directed writing retreats or for purposes of discovery, immersion, and understanding. His visits to Mexico, Cuba, the Canadian Maritimes, Japan, and other locales have each inspired and led to the planning of various upcoming projects.
